Teachers often implore us to join them on their path of discovery, past and future,
and yet the following is good advice too . . . .
"Seek not to follow in the footsteps of the wise but seek what they sought."
It is not a yes or no answer but a yes and no. Both are required to make the whole.
It applies to all the universe, each cause having an effect, every action having a reaction, but deeper still within yourself there needs to exist the yin and yang of life. Sometimes one is physical and the other is of the mind or from extension of Ki. Whichever it is, you must include both in order to be one with the universal laws.
There is no up without down, no outside without an inside, no forward without back, so why discard this principle when you practice your art?
